Get a PayPal Account

PayPal is a necessity on the Internet. You can add/link credit cards to your PayPal account. When a PayPal account balance drops to near zero, PayPal uses the linked credit card. That way the merchant or service you are paying only sees your PayPal account, not your credit card. Your credit card is protected. The payees don't see your credit card information.

Start with a personal PayPal account so that you do not have to pay fees to receive payments (except when your customers and employers pay with credit cards and bank accounts). Then if you get lots of credit card payments you can upgrade to a Business Account (so that your fees for accepting credit card payments and payments from bank accounts are lower). With business and premier accounts you pay fees for accepting all types of payments (even payments made without credit cards). With your personal account the fees for accepting credit card payments are higher, but there are no fees when the transaction is from one PayPal balance to another (with no bank account transfers or credit cards involved).

With business and premier accounts you pay fees for accepting all types of payments, but the fees are lower.

With your personal account you pay fees only for accepting credit card payments and payments transferred from your customers' and employers' bank accounts, but the fees for those transactions are higher than those charged to business and premier accounts.

In summary, the point is that if your buyers/affiliate managers pay you from bank accounts or credit cards linked to their Paypal accounts, you will pay fees even if you have a personal account, and those fees will be higher with a personal account, so in that case you will want a Business Account. But if you don't think your buyers/employers/affiliate managers will use credit cards or bank accounts (and I imagine that affiliate networks and big employers might use credit cards or linked payroll accounts), then get a personal Paypal account. You can upgrade later.

Also note that when you open a Paypal account, make sure that your name and address on the new account are the same as those on your bank accounts and credit cards. Because when you link your bank accounts and credit cards to your Paypal account, your name and address must be exactly the same on all accounts.
